Chain-saw carving is not an all-male event. At least three women carvers are expected at this year’s Chaptacular, which is also a fund-raiser for Cystic Fibrosis.
The Chaptacular Chain-saw Carving Event is scheduled for Nov. 9-10 beginning at 9 a.m. both days at 541 Hungerford Road. This is the fifth year for the event, hosted by Chap Nelson, who is a chain-saw artist himself.
Thirty-three artists have committed to attend and each will donate a piece of work to be sold to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Last year the carvings raised $4,000 for the foundation.
Nelson said the carving event started with a couple of guys whom he met at other events, including Dayton Scoggins, a world and national champion in the world of chain-saw art.
The next year eight carvers showed up, and the third year the event got serious.
“That’s when my sister suggested working with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” Nelson said.
