Reports of incidents by the Jones County Sheriff’s Office state the first call Oct. 25 was to a home on Eatonton Highway at 9:30 p.m.
A report by Deputy Marcus Jackson states that he was dispatched in reference to an 8-month-old infant, Davion Pitts, choking on a hotdog. Jackson said, when he arrived, a crowd of people were standing in a circle surrounding a man bent over the infant attempting to get him to breathe.
The officer grabbed the infant and attempted to resuscitate him. He said the infant did start breathing, but his breaths were shallow. Several other deputies and a Gray Police officer came to the scene, as well as Jones County Rescue personnel.
Attempts to keep the infant breathing were continuous, and he was given oxygen as soon as the ambulance arrived. The baby was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia and then to the trauma unit.
