Jones County Code Environmental Officer Tiffany Davis, Keep Jones Beautiful Director Judy Webb, and volunteer Vicki Bilderback participated in the Oct. 10 Rivers Alive effort to clean up areas along the river in Monroe, Butts, and Jones counties.
Davis said approximately 82 volunteers met at the Dames Ferry Pavilion on Highway 87.
“We started off at Dames Ferry Park off of Highway 87 and hit many of Georgia Power’s park areas, river trails, boat ramps,” she said.
According to a press release about the program, the Rivers Alive campaign has celebrated over 10 years of cleaning up Georgia’s waterways. The mission of the campaign is to create awareness and involvement in the preservation of Georgia’s water resources.
Information from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources states there are more that 70,150 miles of streams and rivers in Georgia that provide drinking water and recreational activities.
