The Greyhounds are going to the playoffs.

Jones County downed Grovetown 48-37 Friday night in Gray to secure the

school's first state playoff berth in football since 2004.

The Greyhounds finished the regular season with a 7-3 record, their best

since 2001, and earned the third seed from Region 2-AAAAA.

They will face Glynn Academy (7-3) in Brunswick in the opening round of the

playoffs next Friday at 7:30 p.m. Glynn downed Jenkins Friday night to

overtake Effingham County, which lost to Ware County 49-0, for the second

seed from Region 3-AAAAA.

The Greyhounds finished third in their region with a 5-2 record behind

Northside-Warner Robins, which was 7-0 after beating Evans, and Warner

Robins, which was 6-1 after downing Lakeside-Evans 40-19. Lakeside finished

fourth in the region at 4-3.

Jones County had to battle to down Grovetown (3-7). The Warriors jumped

ahead 16-7 in the opening quarter, but the Greyhounds stormed back to build

a 41-16 lead early in the third quarter. But Grovetown did not quit, cutting

Jones County's lead to 11 points early in the fourth quarter. The Jones

County defense then held the Warriors scoreless over the last 10 minutes to

seal the victory.

Senior Undre Williams scored five touchdowns on runs of 18, 34, 3, 1 and 77

yards to lead the Greyhounds, but they got a scare when he was hit on the

left knee returning a kickoff late in the third quarter. He did not return

to the game, but coach Dwight Jones said afterward that they held Williams

out as a precautionary measure and he should be good to go next week.

Jo Jo Gibbons also scored on a 19-yard run and guard Jaylin Wright recovered

a fumble in the end zone for the Greyhounds' other touchdowns.
