Gray Station Middle School principal Wes Cavender and team captain Phillis Simpson were recognized at the Nov. 13 meeting by Macon’s ACS senior community manager, Kacey Pernell, for the school’s contribution to Jones County’s 2012 Relay For Life effort that raised $110,000.
Pernell stated that the school system had 100 percent participation in the Relay, and the schools contributed $47,897.13, almost half, of Jones County’s total contribution.
“Gray Station Middle School led not only the school teams, but all the Relay teams, raising over $15,000,” she said.
The representative said Simpson and Cavender worked tirelessly with their team and students in fund-raising throughout the entire year.
Pernell thanked board members, Superintendent William Mathews, and event chairman Leslie Poythress, as well as all principals, teachers, staff and students for their support. She said, since 2004, the schools in Jones County have contributed $284,393 to the Relay.
