Jones County’s Literacy Committee is seeking help from the community to assist with improving the county’s literacy rate.

At the Nov. 28 committee meeting, Chairman Donna Giles reported that literacy surveys have been distributed to selected students and local agencies. Family Connection Coordinator Joy Carr added that 10 surveys were given out, and three have been filled out and returned to the committee.

Giles told committee members the most important work will come when the completed surveys are returned.

“We’ll do that in January. I’m thinking we will divide and conquer,” she said.

The goal is to have the surveys back from the schools before Christmas break.
