A man facing rape charges will remain in jail after being denied bond last week for the second time in Jones County Superior Court.

Russell Frazier, 53, was arrested July 17 and was indicted by a grand jury for the offense Aug. 6. The defendant came before Superior Court Judge Hugh Wingfield Sept. 6, asking to be released on bond and was denied.

Frazier tried again Jan. 3 in front of Wingfield and was denied again, but the judge did give him the option of trying his luck with another judge.

Frazier was represented by public defender Len Myers for his first try but hired Macon attorney Sam Hart Jr. for last week’s hearing.

Hart pointed out that his client has been incarcerated since July, and, in his opinion, is not a danger to the community.

“He had no previous charges of a sexual nature, and he has had no issues from 1996 to the present,” the defense attorney stated.
