Board Chairman Preston Hawkins began the Jan. 8 meeting by welcoming District Two Commissioner Jonathan Pitts and District Four Commissioner Daylon Martin to the board, and the audience added their applause to the welcome.
Martin had a busy first week as a commissioner, attending Gray’s City Council meeting Monday and then sitting in on the Board of Education meeting at the conclusion of the commissioners meeting.
The first item before the board was a zoning issue presented by zoning officer Tim Pitrowski. He explained that residents of Flat Shoals subdivision, located off Highway 49, were concerned that the current Ag-1 (agriculture) zoning allowed mobile homes to be placed in their subdivision. The residents wanted to be sure only site-built homes would be allowed. The request was to rezone the subdivision from Ag-1 to R-1 (residential).
Pitrowski said the planning and zoning commission recommended approval.
Pitts made the motion to approve the request, which was his first as a commissioner.
