Chief appraiser Linda Sibley told the board members that her staff is in the process of sending out 87 conservation use renewal letters to property owners whose 10-year periods are expiring this year.
“When we get those renewal applications back, you will probably need to schedule a separate meeting to review them, since that takes up quite a bit of time,” she said.
Sibley also said the board may need to spend more time on the requests due to a change in state law that requires that two acres be subtracted from the tract for a home site if a home is located on the property.
“That could lead to some tracts dropping below the 10-acre designation we have that requires additional information about how the property is managed to gain conservation use approval,” she said.
Sibley also said she and her staff have prepared the mobile home digest to turn over to Jones County Tax Commissioner Brian Jackson, and that they will consult with him about getting a more accurate count of mobile homes in the county. She said decals are supposed to be issued to mobile-home owners, one kind for those in trailer parks or on other rented land, and another kind for those on land owned by the mobile-home owner.
