At approximately 9:53 p.m., Jan. 27, Jones County Department of Fire Rescue responded to a reported house fire in Bradley. Chief Don Graham said firefighters arrived at 319 Hungerford Road to find a single-story wood frame dwelling with heavy fire already through the roof.

The chief said the firemen quickly advanced multiple hose lines inside the dwelling and deployed an aggressive attack for more than an hour.

Homeowners Shirley Simmons and Herbert Driskell were sleeping when the blaze broke out and were able to escape harm’s way.
