JONES COUNTY: Charles McLane Womble Sr., 74, of Chapman Road, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at a local hospital. The family greeted friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Saturday, at Bridges Funeral Home in Gray. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 3, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, with interment at Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. John Irwin officiated.

Mr. Womble was born Dec. 3, 1938, in Southhampton, Va., and had lived in the Middle Georgia area for the past 30 years. He was the son of the late Cecil Elmer Womble and Beatrice Evay Beale Womble and was a member of Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Womble was a retired machinist for Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corporation.

Mr. Womble is survived by his wife, Patricia Womble of Jones County; son and daughter-in-law, Charles McLane “Buck” Jr. and Michelle Womble of Jones County; grandsons, Charles McLane “Lane” Womble III, Eric Womble Clark, C.J. Scott and Macy Scott, all of Jones County; and by his sister, Willis Buhls of Sedley, Va.
