The dreams of a state championship ended for Jones County wrestlers Tim

Randolph and Jackson Williamson Friday night when both were defeated in

their semifinal matches of the GHSA AAAAA individual tournament at the Macon

Coliseum.

But they both came back in the consolation bracket on Saturday morning to

place in state. Randolph won twice in the 106-pound division to finish

third, and Williamson overcame a pin in his first match Saturday to pin his

foe in his final high school match later Saturday to place fifth in the

285-pound division.

The Greyhounds' other two state qualifiers, sophomore Scott Rooks and

freshman Daniel Curry, were eliminated in their first consolation bracket

matches Friday morning.

Randolph, a junior who finishes the season with a 57-3 record, lost a 12-8

decision to Seth Osborne, 42-9, of Ola in their semifinal match on Friday

night.

But Randolph bounced back on Saturday morning to down Pope's Josh Tazzelta,

38-20, and Ware County¹s Luke Littlefield, 57-4, to place third in the

state. Randolph was up 13-0 on Tazzelta when he finally pinned him in the

third period. Against Littlefield, who Randolph also beat last week in the

sectional final, the Jones County wrestler scored two points on a reversal

in the closing seconds to pull out a 6-4 decision.

Williamson's semifinal loss in the 285-pound division was even closer. The

senior was edged 5-4 by George Harris, 67-4, of Whitewater.

In his first consolation match on Saturday, Williamson was leading North

Paulding's Michael Barday, 38-2, by a 5-0 score when he was thrown and

pinned to be knocked out of the third-place match. But Williamson rebounded

to pin Malik McNeil, 36-14, of Cambridge in the first period of his final

match to finish in fifth place and end the season with a 53-3 record.

Rooks was pinned by Devante Reaves of Glenn Academy in his 220-pound

consolation match on Friday morning, and Curry lost 5-0 to

Lakeside-Atlanta's Alex LaRotta in the 182-pound division. Rooks finishes

the season at 38-20, and Curry winds up 36-25.
