Jones County rallied from a 12-point deficit in the final 3:30 to take a four-point lead with 41.8 seconds to play. But aided by two turnovers by the Greyhounds, Richmond Hill mounted its own rally to score the game’s final six points and advance with a 63-61 victory on Wednesday night in Gray.
The Greyhounds, led by Jarquez Smith with 22 points, finish the season at 17-11. Richmond Hill, 12-16, was led by Jeremiah Hill with 37 points. The Wildcats will play at Northside-Columbus, 20-4, Saturday in the second round of the GHSA Class AAAAA playoffs. Northside downed Northgate 64-47 in the first round on Wednesday.
Wednesday was a bad day for all of the teams in Region 2-AAAAA, as all four were eliminated in the opening round by opponents from Region 3-AAAAA. Windsor Forest beat Northside-Warner Robins 69-60, Effingham County whipped Warner Robins 90-60, and Jenkins defeated Evans 71-61.
