The theft of a work trailer filled with tools and essentially the livelihood of a local contractor was solved within 48 hours of its report by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

An incident report by Deputy Shannon Moseley states he was dispatched to the community of James off Highway 18 East in reference to a theft. When he arrived at the scene, he met with the complainants, who explained they were working on restoration of the home Feb. 23 and left their tools when they quit for the day.

The homeowner returned Sunday to find that tools belonging to him and the contractor were missing, as well as the contractor’s entire enclosed trailer full of tools. The estimated value of the tools and trailer was $60,000.

Investigator Kenny Allen said he got involved in the case about 10 p.m. Feb. 24, and he estimates the theft took place sometime Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

The offender, Brian Mitchell Crosby, turned himself into the Sheriff’s Department Feb. 26 and was charged with burglary, theft by taking, burglary forced entry - residence, and larceny, according to the report of his arrest.
