Adam Sole scored four goals, three in the first half, to lead the Greyhounds to the 8-7 victory. Luis Massumoto, an exchange student from Brazil who also plays tennis, Caed Brownlee, Wade Carr and Robert Sconyers each had one goal for Jones County, which is now 1-4.
The Greyhounds jumped ahead 4-0 and led 4-1 at halftime, but Putnam made a charge in the second half.
“We’ve got a bunch of guys who really hustle and play hard, but they don’t have much experience,” Kitchens said. “We’re improving, though, and we’ll keep getting better. We’re going to put together a travel team to play in the offseason, and that should help develop more kids with soccer skills.”
In their previous game on Feb. 28, the Greyhounds lost a region game at Northside-Warner Robins 7-2. Sole and Trevor Zukowski scored for Jones County.
