Jonathan Scott Lucas, 18, Jessie Caleb Newby, 17, and Dakota Lee Benefield, 18, were arrested Sept. 27, 2012, and each was charged with 42 counts of entering auto.
Lucas and Newby plead guilty to the crimes Feb. 25 and received five years for each count. Counts one and two will run consecutive with each other but concurrent with counts 3-42 for a total of 10 years.
The sentences may be served on probation after the defendants spend time in a state probation center. Lucas and Newby will remain in the Jones County Law Enforcement Center until space is available at the detention center.
The teenagers were indicted by a grand jury on 42 counts of entering an auto Dec. 3, 2012.
The crimes for which the defendants were charged occurred between the hours of 1-4:30 a.m. Sept. 26. Before that day was over, the Jones County Sheriff’s Department received entering auto reports from 23 separate locations.
