Brandon Spivey allowed one run on three hits and struck out five in five innings.
But he appears to be warming up with the weather as he regains his form after battling a sore shoulder during the fall.
Last Friday evening he held Warner Robins to one run on three hits and two walks, striking out five in five innings as Jones County won 9-3 in its first region game of the season.
Spivey also helped himself at the plate, collecting a single and double and driving in two runs in three at-bats.
“Brandon pitched well,” coach Barry Veal said. “He had a sore shoulder back in the fall, so he hasn’t been as sharp as last year. But he’s getting his strength back, and as long as he can throw his curve like he did tonight, he’ll have success.
“And he hit the ball. He was hitting nothing but line drives during batting practice before the game, and that paid off in his first two at-bats in the game.”
