“We set this day aside to let you know we appreciate you and all that you do. The way that you look after us and take care of us,” said Real Life Church Senior Pastor Bo Turner. “So as a church we just wanted to take a day to say thank you and we thank God for you and your commitment to what you do. We feel safer because you guys are out there.”

Sunday, Sept. 7, Real Life Church held their First Annual Public Service Sunday created to recognize the public servants of the surrounding counties and honor the departed of the “9/11” attacks.

The men and women who serve with Central Georgia law enforcement precincts, fire departments, and emergency services joined over 400 family members and friends, Real Life worshippers, and the community as they were honored at this special worship service.

“It is always a privilege for me to recognize Georgia’s and the nation’s law enforcement communities,” said Gov. Sonny Perdue in a letter to honorees. “They put their lives on the line on a daily basis, and for that we owe them a debt of gratitude.”

During the service, a video presentation depicted the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, and the public servants who became national heroes. Participants somberly watched and relived that tragic day, but as an American flag crossed the screen and God Bless the USA rang out from the speakers, everyone gave a standing ovation. Applauding and cheering, they honored the memory of those who passed away and the selfless heroes that aided after the attacks.

The service ended with a letter of certificate ceremony and luncheon for the honorees, family, and friends.

Real Life Youth Pastor Chris Weeks said, “I was so humbled by this service. When everyone stood up on the stage after accepting their certificates, I was struck by how many people there actually are putting their lives at risk, not just the two or three people we might see. I am truly proud of my country and these people that are so selfless.”

Founded in the 1950s, Real Life Church is a part of the Church of God. Their mission is to serve the community and the world by bringing new life and hope to people through the love of Jesus Christ.
