To date, no charges have been filed in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old Jones County woman, but her death remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.

Capt. Earl Humphries, who supervises the Criminal Investigation Department, said the Jones County Sheriff’s Department received a call May 6 at 8:40 p.m. about a shooting death.

He said deputies David Little and Kevin Smith arrived at the Joycliff Road residence and found that Brittany Lynn Grizzle had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene by EMTs.

Humphries said Grizzle was shot by her 27-year-old boyfriend, Waylon Earl Goodson. The captain said Goodson was brought to the sheriff’s office for questioning regarding the shooting, and crime scene investigators went to the Joycliff Road residence to process the scene.

He said Goodson was released a few hours later.
