Parents turned out again to protest actions by the Jones County American League at the South Recreation Complex on Highway 49 after a productive recreation committee meeting of the Jones County commissioners.

Commissioner and committee chairman Jonathan Pitts opened the meeting with a couple revisions to the agenda at the request of recreation director Matt Goins.

Highway 18 complex expansion continues

Goins reported his research on the completion of the facility. The Georgia Department of Corrections has been providing labor free of charge to the county, and by the fall, they are expecting to be ready for sod to have all the ball fields ready.

“We have four-five months to prioritize the rest of the work before grass is put down so we don’t have to go back and tear anything up,” he said. “According to [State Rep.] Susan Holmes, the DOC will be here to finish the project and can also help with fencing and irrigation.”

If the project were bid out, Goins estimates the cost would be $3.6 million.
