The property in question is owned by Peacock’s Auto Center, and, according to court records, the owner should be paying about half of the taxes previously billed by the Jones County Tax Assessors.
The property consists of five lots on Lana Drive being taxed at values from $139,500 to $112,500, depending on the sizes of the lots. The land fronts Bill Conn Jr. Parkway and is zoned commercial.
A Jones County jury ruled in a June 12 trial that the correct value of the lots is from $80,145 to $59, 670. To break that down another way, the total value of the five lots on Lana Drive as assessed by the county was $636,750, and the total value the jury assigned to the properties was $332,070.
That is a reduction of 48 percent.
