The group, which is a committee of the Jones County People Looking Ahead Now grassroots organization, meets monthly and has previously sponsored two art shows and several wine tastings.
Plans are being made for other social events for the county, but the Jones County Folk Arts and Heritage Festival is their largest undertaking to date. The event was scheduled to take place last year but planning did not begin in time to pull it off.
Committee chairman Mae Thurston has enlisted the aid of Heather Busby, who is experienced in putting a festival together as the former Gray Station Better Hometown manager.
Busby created a Facebook page for the event and said she has been receiving inquiries from vendors.
She explained that folk art is an expression of the world’s traditional cultures and the festival is intended to be a celebration of Jones County’s rich and diverse history. The festival will be held on the square in Clinton.
