The July 2 meeting was one commissioner short, with Daylon Martin absent.
Former District Two Commissioner Chap Nelson was at the meeting to request the deletion of sanitary landfills from an allowable conditional use under the zoning category of Ag-1 (agricultural/rural district).
Zoning officer Tim Pitrowski presented Nelson’s petition to the board members with a recommendation of approval. He said a sanitary landfill significantly alters the area in which it is located, and, with the rural character of agriculturally zoned areas, it is logical and reasonable that landfills should be located in an industrial area. With the change in the land use plan, landfills would be allowed only in M-2 (industrial) areas.
Commissioner Jonathan Pitts made a motion to approve the amendment, and the motion was approved 3–0.
