The July 9 Board of Education meeting started as usual with a report from Jones County School Superintendent William Mathews. He announced the dates of open houses for grades six through 12 will take place from 5 p.m. to 7, Aug. 2, and Aug. 5, for Pre-K through fifth grades.
He said a summer graduation would be held July 10, and 10 students would be receiving diplomas.
Mathews congratulated those students on their accomplishment.
“This is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. We need to reward these graduates for finishing the race,” he said.
Board of Education members, minus District One Representative Deloras Moon who was not in attendance, listened to a presentation from the school nutrition department. Director Mary Ann Washburn talked about the department’s numerous awards for the year, including the receipt of the best chapter participation and president’s award for the second year in a row.
