The recreation committee of the Jones County Board of Commissioners had a work session last week, and it ended with two important decisions in hand.

Recreation Director Matt Goins brought the committee a policy for the selection of a Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and new facilities use agreement. Both were approved by recreation committee members and later that evening adopted by the Board of Commissioners.

The advisory committee will consist of five members who will be appointed by the commissioners following an application process. The recreation committee chairman and recreation director will fill out the seven-member board.

The appointed members will have three-year terms.

Goins said the group needs to be diverse.

“They must be able to make objective decisions, and we need dedicated people who will be there. This committee will set forth specific polices for how the community sports associations will govern matters of financial reports, budget, fees, and public notifications,” he said.
