One of Jones County’s newest commissioners was one of the first customers for the county’s electric vehicle charging station.

District Four Commissioner Daylon Martin drove his all electric Nissan Leaf to the county’s first recharging station located in the parking lot at Tri-County EMC in Gray July 20 immediately after attending the Jones County People Looking Ahead Now quarterly breakfast.

Martin said he enjoys driving the car that travels approximately 100 miles on a full charge. He said the car will recharge in a couple of hours at the stations, and the trick is to plan a trip with the location of charging stations in mind.

The commissioner said almost every major car dealership has a charging station.

Martin actually attended meetings about the EV project and approached Tri-County and several other Gray businesses about installing the charging stations.
