Robert Greiner, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Jones County Deputy Coroner Wade Powers. The cause of Greiner’s death, according to Powers, was drowning.
All four of the other individuals in the 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck were treated at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Capt. Billy Mitchell of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department said the accident happened off Folendore Road, and the call came into the Sheriff’s Department at 11:23 p.m.
He said the pickup truck went over a steep embankment, flipped over, and landed upside down in a pond. Mitchell estimated the size of the pond at two acres and said the embankment was about 14 feet high.
He said the four individuals were able to get themselves out of the truck, but Greiner’s body had to be recovered from the submerged cab of the truck.
“The pond is pretty deep, but you could still see the tires of the truck,” he said.
