As of July 1, the name Gray Station Better Hometown has been changed to Main Street Gray. Manager Jennifer Baggarly said, for Gray, the name is the biggest change. Unlike many cities in the Better Hometown program, Gray has always gone the extra step to be part of the Main Street program.
Gray was designated a Better Hometown by the Georgia Municipal Association in 2006 and continued with the process and achieved National Main Street accreditation in June of 2007.
Gray Station Better Hometown’s biggest event of the year is the Daylily Festival that takes place in June. All of the organization’s events will continue; according to Baggarly, the difference will be the Main Street name.
The Main Street program uses a comprehensive revitalization process originated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Georgia became one of six states to launch a statewide Main Street program in 1980.
