City superintendent Russ Dorman reported after the city council’s committees meeting Monday that the leak was discovered in the tank behind the Jones County Government Center on Industrial Boulevard last Monday during a routine inspection.
“Also, about the time we arrived, someone from the county called to report seeing that the tank was leaking, so we thank them for being alert. It appears this happened fairly recently,” he said.
Dorman said the leak was at the bottom of the tank, so all of the water had to be removed in order to make the repair.
“We were able to put most of the water into the system and not lose it, but we did have to simply drain what remained at the bottom of the tank,” he said.
Dorman said it was not until the repairman got to the leak that it was determined it had been caused by a gunshot.
