Jones County Fire and Rescue volunteers are traveling to Warner Robins Thursday to present their donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The united, countywide effort is the second for the volunteers. They set up roadblocks three weekends this month and raised $9,000 for the cause.

Jones County chair Sheila Parker said the countywide effort yielded over $6,200 last year, and that placed them third in the state for volunteer departments.

Parker said they collected at the intersections of Joycliff Road and Highway 49 and Joycliff Road and Gray Highway Aug. 3, 10, and 24. The volunteers numbered 25 between the two locations.

She said Jones County Fire Chief Don Graham helped with the in-road collections, as did Commissioner Jonathan Pitts.

“We had such a wonderful time. MDA fed us Saturday after we finished our last day of collecting, and Harveys in Gray donated a beautiful sheet cake.”
