Students at Gray Elementary School are one step closer to having a new school after bids for construction of the building were approved last week.

Jones County Board of Education members met Oct. 24 to hear a report from Charles Griffis, vice president of the Parrish Construction Group, following an Oct. 17 bid opening for the new GES project.

Griffis said 113 bids were received for 29 bid packages.

“We are excited because of the bids received from local contractors. We have worked with them before and know they are not going anywhere,” he said.

He said there is a lot of local interest in the project and it will add to the community’s economy.

Griffis said he anticipates the project will be completed in 10 months, and he anticipates digging will begin for the footers in November.
