The grand marshal chosen by the Gray Jaycees for their upcoming Christmas parade has touched all of Jones County with the love she has for her community and her volunteer spirit.

The Jaycees recently announced the selection of Nancy Pace as the grand marshal of their 2013 Christmas parade. Pace is not a native of Jones County, but she is close enough. She moved here over the Christmas holidays when she was 6 years old. She celebrated her 72nd birthday last week.

Parade coordinator Kay Buchanan said Pace caught the attention of the Jaycees when the Lions Club announced the scholarship created in her honor at their 2012 fair.

“It was in our conversation at that time to consider her for future grand marshal,” Buchanan said.

The coordinator said she has known Pace since 1978, when she moved to Jones County, and she had more contact with her when the Daylily Festivals began.

“Nancy has just stood out as a perfect role model. Knowing what medical issues she has had and bounced back just made her a perfect candidate,” Buchanan said.
