Jones County property owners have a week remaining to pay their 2013 ad valorem tax bills by the Dec. 1 deadline.

Tax Commissioner Brian Jackson said he would like to remind taxpayers that the county tax office will be closed Nov. 28 and 29, which is Thanksgiving Day and the day after. That means that Wednesday, Nov. 27, will be the last day for people to physically bring their payments into the tax office.

Payments may, of course, be mailed to P.O. Box 417 in Gray, or this year there is the other option of paying taxes online.

The Jones County tax website is www.jonescountytaxes.com. Payments may be made using PayPal® or with any one of the four major credit cards.

There is a fee for the use of credit cards that is calculated online for the user. The fee is 2.2 percent of the total transaction plus a 30-cent transaction fee. That equates to a charge of $22.30 to process a $1,000 property tax payment.
