After two impressive wins to start last week, the Greyhounds finished on a sour note with a 71-65 overtime loss to Monticello at home on Saturday.

The Jones County boys had their best outing of the season in an 82-58 victory over a tough Dublin team at home on Tuesday, then followed that with a 52-49 road victory at Dodge County on Friday.

“Those were a couple of good wins for us,” coach Dennis Woolfolk said. “A lot of guys contributed in the Dublin game, and being able to go down to Dodge and win was good. But we didn’t play very well against Monticello.

“It was our first time having back-to-back games, and we didn’t have much energy. But they were playing their second game in a row, too, so that can’t be an excuse. They had the energy. We finally got a group out there toward the end who were playing hard, and we came back to force overtime. But then they hit a couple of threes and we couldn’t respond.”

The Greyhounds, now 4-3 on the season, jumped ahead of Monticello early, but the Hurricanes stormed back and went into halftime with a 32-30 lead.
