The grappling Greyhounds won the Region 2-AAAAA team dual championship for the second year in a row last weekend, downing Warner Robins 41-34 in the championship match on Saturday at Greenbrier High School in Evans.

That sends them on to the state team dual championships at the Macon Centreplex this Thursday through Saturday.

Tim Randolph (126 pounds), Tyler Dukes (132), Darrell Lee Duggan (160), Torrez Finney (172) and Scott Rooks (220) all were undefeated in Jones County’s four matches to lead the team.

Rooks clinched the region title with a 4-0 victory over Hunter Clark in the finals against Warner Robins, but coach Jacob Crook said many others contributed to the championship.

“All our freshmen stepped up and helped tremendously, but Seph Shedd (152) and Evan Karlinski (182) were the key to us winning region,” Crook said. “In the final, both lost, but they did not get pinned early, which allowed us to win. They were facing more experienced guys who should have pinned them in the opening period, but both wrestled the smartest matches of their season and kept the scores close enough that we could win with what our other guys did.”
