Jones County boys’ coach Dennis Woolfolk hopes a busy final week of the regular season helps his team wake up in time for next week’s region tournament.

After losing three of their last four games, including a 76-69 loss at Northside-Warner Robins on Friday, the Greyhounds (12-9 overall, 2-3 in the subregion) will be a third seed for the Region 2-AAAAA Tournament, which begins next Tuesday at Greenbrier High School in Evans.

Jones County was also a third seed last year – after finishing tied for first and losing the three-way coin toss – but still advanced to the state tournament.

The coach says his players have to perform better with more consistency than they have in recent weeks to make a similar run this year

“People have got to show up. When you have a big responsibility on the team and you don’t step up in crucial times, it hurts everyone, and it is tough to win,” Woolfolk said. “We keep telling them that, but too often in these last few weeks, they haven’t responded. We need guys to step up and fulfill the roles they have. They need to listen to what they’ve been taught and produce.”
