There may have been snow on the ground last week, but spring sports start this week for Jones County High School.

The tennis team was to swing into action first with matches at Dodge County on Tuesday, and the first home matches are Thursday at 4:15 p.m. against Monroe County.

Alisha Gordon is again the head coach for the girls and boys, and Mark Higginbotham is her assistant.

Soccer cranks up next, with a junior varsity game at Houston County next Monday and the varsity girls and boys hosting Monticello on Tuesday. The girls play at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7:30.

Duane Kitchens returns for his second season coaching the boys, and Cory Tanner, who is also JCHS’ band director, takes over as girls’ coach.

The varsity baseball team has a preseason game at Mary Persons on Feb. 13, then opens the regular season on the road against Dublin on Feb. 26. The junior varsity and ninth-grade teams open Feb. 18 at Northside-Warner Robins.
