Jaycee Lee Snow told council members at the Feb. 3 session that the change in route is due to the addition of gas pumps at Ingles. The installation of the pumps and service kiosk will mean that the parking lot will no longer be big enough to be the staging area for the floats in the parade.
Snow said the Jaycees are seeking suggestions from the council and presented possible options of starting the parade at the Jones County Government Center, starting at the streetscape at the railroad tracks in Gray, and staging the floats on Old Clinton Road.
“Each of the alternate routes pose some problems, but they are a place to start,” he said.
Snow said another suggestion was to start the parade at Jones County High School and run the route around the Bill Conn Jr. Parkway.
Councilman David Tufts asked Snow if he had spoken to Gray Police Chief Adam Lowe for his ideas, and he said he had not. Tufts suggested Lowe could help.
