It was one and done – interrupted by an ice storm – for both the Greyhounds and Lady Hounds in the Region 2-AAAAA tournament last week in Evans.

But as disappointed as both boys’ coach Dennis Woolfolk and girls’ coach Lance Pittman were that their teams didn’t advance deeper in the postseason, they see promise for the coming years of Jones County basketball.

The Greyhounds fell first, squandering a five-point lead in the third quarter as Lakeside-Evans rallied in the final 10 minutes to take a 66-54 victory last Tuesday evening at Greenbrier High School.

Then, after a three-day delay caused by the ice storm that the boys just beat home on Tuesday night, the Jones County girls played one of their better games of the season against top-seeded Greenbrier on Saturday night before finally bowing out 50-34 to the host team.

The boys finished the season at 14-11, and the girls were 5-20.

The Greyhounds were the third seed from the west subregion after going 2-4 in region games in the regular season.
