Starting a week later than planned due to the ice storm, the Jones County soccer teams took out their frustration on Georgia Military and Monticello to begin the season 2-0.

The Lady Hounds downed Georgia Military 6-0 in Milledgeville last Tuesday, then whipped Monticello 9-1 in their home opener Monday in a game rescheduled from Feb. 11.

The Jones County boys defeated Georgia Military 9-1 and Monticello 7-1.

New coach Cory Tanner, who is also Jones County’s band director, reported that Kaitlyn Towers scored three goals, Cheyanne Mosteller two goals and Meghan Brennan one in the Lady Hounds’ victory over Georgia Military. Freshman goal tender Madison Findlay recorded the shutout.

Against Monticello, Towers and Jade Washington scored four goals each, and Mosteller added one. Brennan had three assists.

Adam Sole led the Greyhounds with six goals against Georgia Military, coach Duane Kitchens reported. Dennis Woolfolk, Caleb Meeks and Ethan Oulsnam added one goal each.
