It was about 3 p.m. Feb. 18 when Ron Harmer with FEMA and Ed Westbrook with GEMA arrived in Jones County to help put together cost estimates on the impact of the ice storm.
The duo was scheduled to arrive at 1 p.m. but were delayed in Jasper County, which was their last stop before Jones County.
Harmer began the meeting by explaining Jones County had a disaster and needs to put a dollar amount to the damage in order to receive federal disaster funds.
“We will come up with a preliminary assessment figure today of what it will cost you to recover from the disaster,” he said.
Harmer said he is a project specialist with the agency and he or another specialist will come back at a later date to meet with Jones County Emergency Management Director Don Graham and put together a more definitive amount.
