But when she was named the school’s 2014 PAGE STAR Student for having the highest SAT score in her class, she chose math teacher Susan Glover as her STAR teacher.
“That’s because she really challenged me to work hard and get better,” Pounds said. “I love words and history, but math is hard for me. I had to study a lot to get better, and Mrs. Glover really pushed me.”
Glover said she was proud to be chosen by Pounds, but the student was the real star because she set a goal to be a top student and did the work to make it happen.
“I’m surprised she chose me, but I’m not surprised she was the STAR student,” Glover said after being summoned from class by Pounds last Thursday for the presentation. “She is very smart, has a tremendous work ethic and is a beautiful person, inside and out.”
Glover taught Pounds in accelerated math, trigonometry and calculus last year.
“It is a class for the top juniors math-wise, and we had a really good class. It was an unusual mix of talented, bright, open and polite students who were interested in learning, and Sarah was one of those who worked the hardest,” Glover said.
