Jones County track coaches Travis Reese and Geoff Moore said they were pleased with the performances of their teams in their opening meet last Thursday hosted by Northside-Warner Robins.

Reese said his boys defeated both Northside and Houston County in the meet, with big performances by Daylon Martin, Justin Clausell, Hunter Kimball and Jarmal Smith.

Individual winners for the Greyhounds were Smith in the long jump at 18 feet, 7 inches and in the triple jump at 37 feet, 7 inches; Edregas O’Neal in the shot put with 43 feet, 5 inches; Kimball in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11:11 and in the 1,600 meters with a 5:18; Tripp Ussery in the 800 meters with a 2:21; Clausell in the 400 meters with a 50.9; and Martin in the 300 hurdles with a 43.4 and in the 110 hurdles with a 15.8.

The Jones County boys also won both relay races. Jequelle Griffin, Clausell, Smith and Jo Jo Gibbons ran a 44.67 to win the 4-by-100, and Griffin, Gibbons, Dre Butts and Clausell teamed to win the 4-by-400 in 3:43.85.

“I was extremely proud of the way the kids showed up and competed. They were focused and determined, ran hard and competed hard,” Reese said. “I was pleasantly surprised with our performance given the lack of practice we have had due to the weather.”

Martin had personal bests in both hurdles races, as did O’Neal in the shot put.
