The meeting began with recommendations from each board member in attendance and ended with a consensus of the way the money would be spent. Board members will vote on the intergovernmental resolution for the sales tax at their monthly meeting March 4.
The Feb. 20 meeting was attended by Commissioners Larry Childs, Daylon Martin, Jonathan Pitts, and Chairman Preston Hawkins. Commissioner Tommy Robinson was out of town due to the illness of a family member and was not at the meeting.
City and county officials had agreed on a split for the city of 17.5 percent of Special Purpose Location Option Sales Tax collections, which equates to an estimated $2.1 million.
The $12 million in estimated sales tax collections for the county were divided among administrative departments, sheriff’s vehicles, library, golf course, EMA, public works, water projects, industrial park, Highway 49 track, and parks and recreation. The amount for each line item was the challenge.
