The ninth-grade Hounds won three games last week but lost starting left fielder Michael Orr with a broken leg suffered during an outfield collision.

Coach Brandon Davis said Orr and center fielder Teldric Ross were both going for a fly ball and ran together during last Monday’s 6-3 victory at Houston County.

“It was just one of those plays where neither was sure he could get to it, so nobody called the other guy off,” Davis said. “We hate to lose Michael and hope he is back strong next year.”

Jordan Miller and Thomas Vickers combined to get the victory, with Miller going the first 3 1/3 innings and Vickers finishing the final 2 2/3.

On Tuesday at home, Jones County trailed Monticello 2-0 before rallying to win 7-3.

Dawson Grimes battled some control problems early but bore down to go five innings for the victory, Davis said. Jacob Durrett pitched the final two innings for the save.
