A Jones County woman received 15 years to serve on probation in connection with injuries sustained by her 4-year-old son in 2012.

Andrea Denise Hogan was sentenced to 10 years for the lesser-included offense of cruelty to children in the second degree and five years for aggravated battery. The counts are to run consecutively for a total of 15 years.

Hogan was indicted on charges of cruelty to children in the first degree and aggravated battery by a Jones County grand jury in August of 2012.

The charges stemmed from an incident that took place April 12, 2012. According to the report of the incident by Jones County Sheriff’s Investigator Lt. Calvin Pitts, he was contacted by a Jones County Department of Family and Children Services because the 4-year-old was at the Medical Center of Central Georgia being treated for second- and third-degree burns.

The burns were on the child’s bottom, lower back, and upper thighs.

Pitts said, when he questioned Hogan, the mother said she had found two ticks on her son and was using a home remedy she found on the internet. The remedy included giving the child a bath using bleach in the bath water.
