With eggs being in the spotlight this weekend, one Jones Countian is doing her part in making sure those multicolored Easter eggs are the freshest possible.

Brittany Thompson is the owner and operator of Brittany’s Fresh Eggs, which she runs out of her home on County Line Road. Thompson has been in the egg business for five years and said she was as surprised as anyone to find that her niche is raising chickens.

She currently has 26 chickens, one rooster, and two turkeys and is becoming known as the local expert on chickens. Thompson has had three articles published in the magazine Backyard Poultry and said her chickens are so healthy all they would need for the showroom would be a bath.

Thompson has lived in Jones County all of her life and is a 2008 graduate of Jones County High School. She also has a B.A. from Wesleyan College. She is currently working a temporary job at Davis and Cleveland CPA to help support her chicken habit.

Thompson said she worked with horses growing up, and it was her brother who turned her focus to chickens.
