The wait was worth it. After rain and spring break for their opponent forced the Gray Station Hounds to wait 13 days after winning their first-round game over Monroe County on April 16, they downed Upson-Lee 7-2 in the championship game last Tuesday in Gray to claim their second Central Georgia Middle School Athletic League crown in the last three years.

Tripp Powell went the distance on the mound, holding the Knights to four hits and a walk while striking out three.

Jackson Mix was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, Sammy Walton was 2-for-2 and scored two runs, and Keylan Dykes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the offense.

“The guys played a great game. We hated having such a long layoff, but it worked out OK,” coach Tripp Burt said. His team finished with an 11-3 record.

It was especially satisfying to win the title after losing both regular season games to cross-county rival Clifton Ridge. It is the first time in a number of years that the Cougars have beaten the Hounds in baseball.
