His Lady Hounds’ team will be competing in the state class AAAAA girls’ tournament as a team at Jones Creek in Augusta, while senior boys’ golfer Zach Haney will represent the Greyhounds as an individual in the boys’ tournament at Bartram Trail in nearby Evans.
Jones County junior Kensley Brown participated individually as a freshman in the state tournament two years ago, but this is the first time in school history the Lady Hounds have made the tournament as a team. Joining Brown at Jones Creek on Monday will be sophomore Monique Veal and fellow juniors Charli Justice and Kaitlyn Hemstreet.
The Lady Hounds earned their berth in the state tournament by winning the Region 2-AAAAA tournament, held at Bartram Trail, back on April 21.
Brown led the Lady Hounds with an 84, Veal shot 86, Justice 98 and Hemstreet 103 in the region tourney.
“I’m expecting my girls to finish in the top 10 at state,” Williams said. “There are a few really strong teams out of the Atlanta and Athens regions that will be tough to beat, but we should compete well against everyone else.
