Landon Vaughn became the first member of the 2014 Jones County baseball team to earn a college scholarship when he signed with ABAC last Friday afternoon.

A versatile fielder and speedy leadoff hitter for the Greyhounds, Vaughn played shortstop, left field, center field and second base during his high school career, and he even pitched a bit.

His senior season, Vaughn mostly played second base to help anchor the infield for the Greyhounds, who rebounded from a losing season his junior year to go 15-8 in 2014.

“We’re really thrilled that Landon will have a chance to continue playing baseball as he begins his college education,” Jones County coach Barry Veal said. “It is a great honor to be able to play sports in college and the culmination of a lot of hard work to get that chance. He was a good player and leader for us, and I’m sure he’ll do well at ABAC.”

ABAC coach Robert Morgan, who attended the signing ceremony at the high school, said he was glad that Vaughn chose to sign with the Stallions. He said that Vaughn would have the chance to compete for the open position in center field at ABAC.

Vaughn said he was very excited to sign with the Tifton junior college.
